Weekly Notes April 16, 2018

I was honored to travel to Notre Dame University this past weekend to learn more about what we call the ACE program; Alliance for Catholic Education. This program is run by Notre Dame and focuses on gathering young people who are interested in teaching in Catholic schools. With the help of schools like SES, they mold these individuals into becoming fantastic teachers who are centered in their faith and want to be part of the mission of Catholic education. They spend two years teaching at a Catholic school and at the same time grow, become part of the community and a school faculty and strengthen their faith. We have been very happy to have Ms. Audrey with us for the past two years. She has brought an energy and the newest, innovational ways to teach that our students have enjoyed and benefited from. I am sad to say that she will be leaving at the end of this school year. However, I met our new ACE teacher for next year who is absolutely excited to become part of SES. This program brings these young people into Catholic schools all over the United States. We are happy to be part of it.

There is an evening with the principal tomorrow, Tuesday, 4/17 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. The meeting is open to all parents/guardians, all grades. If you wish to come please RSVP to me at kherpich@sescubs.com Feel free to bring food/drink if you can’t get home before the meeting.

The ACT Aspire assessments began today and will continue through Thursday. Please continue to encourage your child to give it their all.

If you have not yet done so, please go to the school website, www.sescubs.com and complete the survey marked parents. This is for our accreditation and very important. The link will soon expire.

Some of you have been asking when the first day of school will be for next year. Students will be expected to report back to school on Wednesday, August 8th.

If you have not yet registered your child for the next school year, please do so at your earliest convenience. The school office is open from 7:00 am-2:30 pm.

SES would like to congratulate Mrs. Jamie Lewis for being nominated to receives this year’s Mother Seton Award. This award is given to the person nominated by parents for their work in volunteering. SES is blessed to have Ms. Jamie. Her work as president of the HSA is outstanding. She also does much more for the school outside of that role than many people know. She will be honored for her excellent work at a luncheon on Tuesday, 4/24 with her family, friends and members of the faculty. Congratulations!!

Sometimes when one is “absent” from school for even one day it is interesting to see how students react when they see you again. In my experiences at the High School level they are so busy that they really don’t notice if the principal is not there (lol!). I was late today because the plane did not land until 11:30 pm last night. When I went out to lunch recess today, so many students said welcome back and the younger ones all gave me a hug. What a fantastic way to return!!

Please remember that all parents/guardians/visitors must report to the main office before entering school grounds. While the gates have been repaired, students are still getting back into the routine of closing gates. If it should be open, please report to the office.

I hope you have a wonderful week!
