Weekly Notes March 12, 2018

We had a productive Coffee with the Principal this morning. A total of eight parents came. We talked about everything from uniform to conduct cards, after-care to Option C, sports to exams and things in between. It was an open and frank conversation. I was asked if there was anything I would ask of parents and my response was for all of you to remember that I cannot fix something if I do not know about it. All it takes is an email or phone call and I will do my best to look into whatever your concern is. The “fix” may require some time or may be just a miscommunication or an adjustment. It may be something that needs to be discussed after I investigate. Keeping the issue to yourself and talking about it to other parents does not help; instead it fuels the fire. If you had a lack of response in the past, I can only apologize. and let you know that I do respond and try to take care of all issues. Our next get together will be announced.

I had the pleasure of attending a two-day retreat with the Diocese of Baton Rouge principals this past Thursday and Friday. It was held at St. Joseph’s Seminary. If you have never been there, try to visit sometime. The church and grounds are absolutely beautiful. It was a wonderful two days.

We are so proud of our science club students who will be participating in the Science Olympiad this coming Saturday. Thanks to some of our fathers, this event has become a reality. The students are looking forward to going to the competition and seeing what it’s all about.

The sign-up sheet for working the fair will be at the Pee Wee basketball games this Friday (3/16). The sheets will also be available in the main office all during the week of 3/19-23.

Students in grades 3-8 will be taking the ACT Aspire practice test next week (3/19-3/22). There is nothing to study or prepare for at home. It is a practice test on what they have learned this year. Please be sure your child has a good breakfast those mornings and has enough sleep the night before. This will help prepare them for when we take the ACT Aspire test in April.

I am hoping you have noticed the work being done on the old gym roof. It is being cleaned of all the grime and dirt and will be sealed to prevent leaking. Plans are underway to determine what this structure will become. If you haven’t stopped in to see the cafeteria renovation please do. The drainage that was put in in the area as you enter has alleviated the water that would accumulate when it rained.

Enjoy your week!
