Weekly Notes April 9, 2018

April 9, 2018

Happy Easter! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday break. Talking with some of your children this morning, I know you went places and did interesting, fun things. I drove to Georgia to visit my sister and her family. I seemed to have dodged some of the cold weather until this past weekend. But I think (hope?) Spring will stay with us now.

PLEASE…go to the school website, www.sescubs.com and complete the survey marked parents. This is for our accreditation and very important.

If you have not signed up to work the fair please do so this week. If you received an in-voice for not working the Color Run you can call Ms. Patricia and schedule to work at the fair to make this up. We should have the schedule on the website by mid-next week. This way you can confirm when you should work.

Update on school renovations:

  • The roof on the old gym is almost complete. It has been power washed and coated with a sealant which will prevent leaking. We will have a 10-year warranty on this work. The next step is to work on the inside. Our plan is to build a Primary School Center which will house PreK-3, PreK-4, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade.
  • Work will soon begin on the Library roof. We will follow the same process as the old gym repair and have the same guarantee. There has been a leak for some time and a hole was found in the roof. This is the last remaining original structure on campus so we want to preserve this building.
  • Lights have been installed on the overhangs that connect the buildings; one by the library, two where the overhang connects the main building to the cafeteria. It has been very dark in the morning…some of our staff arrive very early and it will help when we have meetings in the cafeteria.
  • You may have noticed that the gate to the main school building has been broken. It took some time, but we found a company to repair it that will give us a warranty. I am hopeful that they will be here this week to do their work.

The Strategic Planning Committee has been working on all these projects. They are putting together a plan that will outline the renovations and building that needs to be done as well as keeping our technology up-to-date in the upcoming years. Our goal is to have St. Elizabeth remain a source of excellent Catholic education for those who attend for many, many years to come. To this date, all the work described above and the cafeteria renovation has been paid for by the school. Moving forward, we will need to conduct a Capital Campaign to raise funds which will include the construction of the Primary Grade Center. The Strategic Planning Committee is working on a time-frame for this.

Stay tuned for details about a summer program for any student who is interested in attending. I believe there was one here a while ago and my intent is to see it return. I am working on the details and should have that ready very soon. So, if you are looking for a place for your children during the summer you have to look no further than SES.

Next week, 4/17-20, students in grades 3-8 will be taking the ACT Aspire end of the year assessment. This assessment will give us data about how your child performed in school for this year. It is important that your child comes to school rested and ready to test. Be sure they eat breakfast, either at home or at school. The results from this assessment will help us plan for next year.

I will have an evening with the principal next Tuesday, 4/17 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. The meeting is open to all parents, all grades. I would like to limit the number to 20 in order for us to be able to have a conversation that we can all take part in together. If you wish to come please RSVP to me at kherpich@sescubs.com Feel free to bring food/drink if you can’t get home before the meeting.

If you have changed your email address since you last registered, please send it to Ms. Melissa so we are up-to-date.

Have a fantastic week!
