Weekly Notes, January 22, 2018

Fr. Matthew’s sermon this past weekend talked about prayer and how we can just recite it from memory without feeling or even meaning. He used the Act of Contrition as an example. As he talked I thought about my own prayers and how right he is. Does this happen to you as well?

Every night before I go to sleep, I say the same prayer. I say this particular prayer because it helps me “turn off” my brain before getting into bed. I do not know who wrote it or even how it came into my possession. What I do know is that it seems to settle me before sleep. I realized that it works better on some nights than others and wondered if it is because I rush through it or don’t even think about what I am saying. So, Sunday night I took my time and really prayed. I reflected between each verse. And I slept.

I thought I would share this prayer with you. I hope it helps you as it does me.

Dear God,

Please help me to rest.

Please help me to remember that you are all there is.

I place my list of things to do in your hands.

Just for a moment, I let it go.

I place any thoughts about how things should be different in your hands.

Just for a moment, I let them go.

I place any thoughts about how someone else should be different in your hands.

Just for a moment, I let them go.

I place any thoughts about how I should be different in your hands.

Just for a moment, I let them go.

Right now, just for a moment, I allow things to be exactly as they are,

I allow myself to be exactly as I am,

And so I rest.

Next week is Catholic Schools Week, the week we celebrate being a Catholic school. You will be receiving a flyer with all the special events for the week but I wanted to invite you all to attend the 10:45 AM mass at St. Elizabeth this Sunday, 1/29. Students should wear their uniforms. Those in attendance will receive a free dress down pass to be used Monday, 1/30. I look forward to seeing you there.

Friday evening is our Annual Lip Sinc. This will be my first and from what everyone tells me it is great fun. I am looking forward to seeing what our students do!

Our days of school last week were very unexpected. I hope you all stayed warm with no issues. We will be looking at the number of days we have missed so far this year and how we will be making them up. I will get this information to you as soon as I can. Please note that it might take a little time to figure it all out.
