Weekly Notes September 5, 2017

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and the celebration of Labor Day. Labor Day is a federal holiday and honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country. Through the years it has evolved to a general celebration of all workers. I hope you were able to take at least a few minutes to relax and enjoy the day.

You will receive a letter today reminding you to complete the application for free lunch. If you remember, I referred to this at Open House. Even if you do not qualify, it is important that you complete the application as it allows more funds to come to the school. Please check your student's folder for this letter.

Fr. Matthew spoke to us this Sunday about the renewal of our mind. It is true that as we make our way through the week, we become focused on the ordinary things, the routines of our lives. We are busy with the business of life and it is easy to forget who we are called to become. I am currently reading a book by Matthew Kelly in which he asks us to give 10 minutes a day to God. I am attempting to make this part of my morning before coming to school. Most days I am successful but the resistance is still there; especially to grab 10 more minutes of sleep. When I do give God that 10 minutes I find I have a better start to the day. It helps me focus on what God is calling me to be. These 10 minutes can be in the morning, at lunch, at night. Give it a try. I think you'll like it.
